Although filming had completed on The Walking Dead’s tenth season, post-production on the 16th and final episode, A Certain Doom, was postponed by the outbreak of coronavirus.
Thankfully, the editing and special effects team have been able to finalise the extensive work on the finale, and the episode will be shown as a one-off special on October 4, and the following day in the UK.
Not only will episode 16 feature the Hilltop survivors last stand against Beta (played by Ryan Hurst) and the Whisperers, but the sneak peak trailer has also confirmed the return of Maggie (Lauren Cohan).
Unfortunately, in signature TWD style, not everyone is expected to escape the latest season’s final battle with their lives.
Ahead of the show’s exciting new release, a series of brand new stills from the season ten special have been revealed.
The pictures depict a high-definition look at Beta’s brand new mask, which incorporates the face of the decapitated Whisperer leader Alpha (Samantha Morton).
Fans also caught a glimpse of Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) facing off against the morally questionable Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
In perhaps the most revealing new still, Daryl is seen wearing a dirty raincoat to infiltrate a horde of zombies.
This intriguing pic may have now sealed Daryl’s demise in the upcoming finale, and was made extra foreboding by comments from series executive producer Denise Huth.
Huth said of the Whisperers: “We’re seeing [the survivors] more together. It’s clear that they have some sort of plan, but there’s still that fear.
“There’s still the knowledge that this is tricky, and that once again maybe not everyone is going to get out alive.”
Daryl took over as series lead last year following the mysterious departure of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) near the start of season nine.
However, the show’s reformed wildcard may not be in the spotlight for much longer following these ominous clues.
Season ten has since seen Michonne (Danai Gurira) also exit the show, with Lauren Cohan posed to have a major role in season 11 following Maggie’s return in the finale.
When the series finally returns, fans may have to prepare for a major cast reshuffle as TWD heads into its 11th season.
The Walking Dead season 10 will conclude October 4 on AMC.
