Gillian Anderson, who played Margaret Thatcher in Netflix series The Crown, has decided to forego “uncomfortable” bras. The Sex Education actress has adopted a more casual attire during the Covid-19 lockdown.
The 52-year-old made the candid admission when she was asked to describe her favourite outfit worn during lockdown.
The X-Files star admitted that she has become so “lazy” during the pandemic she planned to ditch bras altogether.
During an Instagram Live Q&A session, the mum-of-three poked fun at herself as she claimed her figure wasn’t what it used to be.
When quizzed about her favourite lockdown attire, Gillian dished on losing her bra.
“It’s probably the same one as my out of lockdown outfit — comfortable black track pants and a matching hoodie. I’d wear that every day if I could,” Gillian explained.
“I mean, I’ve gotten so lazy and I don’t wear a bra anymore. I can’t wear a bra. I can’t, no, I can’t. I’m sorry.”
Gillian added: “I don’t care if my breasts reach my belly button, I’m not wearing a bra anymore. It’s just too f***ing uncomfortable.
“So yeah, comfortable black track pants and a matching hoodie. I’d wear that every day if I could.”
While a fourth added: “I couldn’t agree with you more… First thing that comes off when I get home. When I am at home, forget it. TMI, perhaps, but I also hate pants.”
Gillian, who is the mum of three children – Piper, 26, Oscar, 14, and Felix, 12 – previously revealed that she used to suffer from a serious lack of self-confidence.
However, after therapy and taking up meditation, the award-winning actress refuses to allow herself to think badly about her body.
“I will not go there. I simply will not allow it anymore. Because the things that we might be critical of ourselves about actually don’t matter.
“The only thing that really matters in terms of our peace of mind is our peace of mind itself, and how we react to things,” she told the Guardian in 2017.
Gillian rose to fame in 1993 playing FBI agent and doctor Dana Scully opposite David Duchovny as Fox Mulder, in the science fiction series The X-Files.
The hugely popular show ran for nine years and spawned two movies.
Gillian is now known for playing sex expert Dr Jean Milburn in Sex Education, which starts its third series in September.
