The USA Network’s thrilling crime series came to an explosive end after five seasons earlier this year. However, diehard Queen of the South fans are still returning to the show’s humble beginnings and picking up on some key storylines that were somehow forgotten in later instalments.
Several weeks after Queen of the South aired its emotional final episode fans still have some pressing questions about the popular TV thriller.
Series lead Alice Braga stars as drug runner Teresa Mendoza, who eventually strikes up a close partnership with her former handler James Valdez (played by Peter Gadiot).
Although the pair are romantically involved by the end of the series, James is initially introduced alongside his girlfriend, Kim Brown (Blair Bomar).
Meanwhile, Teresa is struggling to balance her new life of crime with a long-term relationship of her own with boyfriend Guero Davila (Jon-Michael Ecker).
While Guero was tragically killed in the third season, many fans simply forgot about Kim as she seemed to simply vanish from the face of the Earth.
One fan recently raised the point of her absence on Reddit, and was surprised to receive a humorous response from the show’s script supervisor about the issue.
User TransportationWest72 posted: “I’m towards the end of season two of the show and I have been wondering for ages – what the hell happened to James’ girlfriend Kim.
“Last I remember she was at the trailer in season one but I haven’t seen her since.”
Upon seeing the fan’s question, script supervisor Barry Caldwell offered a hilarious alternative to popular theories.
He replied: “We would often joke on set that she was still there waiting in the trailer even as we shot the finale.”
As the events of the final season take the series even further into Teresa’s future, Kim could have been keeping her head down for several years away from the action.
Another fan responded: “This is hilarious, I was thinking the same.”
However, another viewer noted a later episode featured a throwaway line which went some way to clarifying Kim’s fate.
They commented: “I think when they were at the trailer they ended things off screen.
“[When] he shows back up at the warehouse or wherever and the group of guys say ‘aren’t you supposed to be hiding out with a hot redhead?’ James says now I’m here with you guys or something.”
Kim’s silent fury is immediately apparent when she shows up at the trailer clutching a pillow, so it’s clearly implied this was the last time she was willing to go along with James’ plans.
Thankfully, Kim didn’t make much of an impression on Queen of the South fans, otherwise her unexplained absence could have raised some huge questions in later seasons.
Queen of the South seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Netflix.
