Lorraine, 61, has been the host of her very own chat show for over 25 years and has been a pinnacle of strength for viewers during the pandemic. Regular fans of the ITV chat show know the Scottish television veteran usually takes breaks from the programme to coincide with the holidays on the academic calendar. However, a brand-new star will be filling in for the host as she enjoys some time away from the screen with former SM:TV presenter Cat, 44, taking hold of the reins.
With the Easter break beginning next week, Cat will be sat in the hot seat as she interviews a number of famous faces.
Speaking about replacing Lorraine, the 44-year-old said: “Lorraine has kindly entrusted me with her show while she has a break over Easter.
“I’m so happy to be back at ITV for the coming week and looking forward to meeting some people I’ve wanted to interview for some time and also welcoming some old friends on air.”
Editor of the show Victoria Kennedy added: “Next week the lovely Cat Deeley will take to the helm of Lorraine, providing viewers at home with much-needed Easter enjoyment.
“As a huge fan of SMTV, I’m more than just a bit delighted. And of course, we look forward to welcoming Ranvir [Singh] back too. We’ve got a great lineup of Easter guests joining us,” she told Mirror Online.
Good Morning Britain star Ranvir, 43, has been the most recent presenter to fill in for Lorraine when she took a break in February.
This new role for the broadcaster came following the journalist’s successful stint on Strictly Come Dancing.
Before Ranvir, the likes of Loose Women panellist Christine Lampard, 42, would replace the Scottish television veteran.
However, Christine has recently welcomed her first son with her husband Frank Lampard, 42, so she is enjoying some maternity leave from presenting duties.
However, next week will be the first time Cat will feature as an interim presenter in her first main role on UK screens in 14 years.
The mother-of-one has been residing in America with her family for the past decade and has been the host of So You Think You Can Dance?
Her husband Patrick Kielty, 50, has made more frequent appearances on the airwaves as a presenter on BBC’s The One Show.
It seems both the husband and wife could become the next presenting super couple as this could lead to more roles in the future.
Cat reunited with former SM:TV co-stars Ant McPartlin, 45, and Dec Donnelly, 45, a couple of weeks ago.
The trio appeared together on Saturday Night Takeaway where the mother-of-one became the subject of a prank.
The end of the episode saw the famous faces perform a sketch which was made infamous from their days as children’s television presenters.
Viewers shared their delight at seeing Cat back on-screen after 14 years and one wrote on Twitter: “Cat Deeley on Saturday Night Takeaway is way too nice, man. I miss SMTV Live.”
