Along the way, Jeremy was helped by a selection of extremely generous and kind people – his finance expert, ‘Cheerful’ Charlie, Kaleb Cooper who became his farming manager by the end of the series.
There was also Gerald – a specialist in the construction and maintenance of the many dry stone walls that were frequently destroyed by Jeremy’s sheep, Kevin, a veteran sheep farmer who was on hand to answer all of Jeremy’s questions about his flock of sheep, and Ellen, the shepherdess Jeremy was forced to employ after one too many sheep related incidents.
Viewers also saw Jeremy’s girlfriend, Lisa Hogan play an integral part; from helping with lambing season to working in the shop.
Along the way, there were several things that went wrong; a prolonged period of drought meant Jeremy’s crops were suffering, to him destroying fields of land to build new habitats, all in the name of ecology.
Jeremy was also frequently seen struggling to get any basic farming done because he bought the biggest tractor on the market – which subsequently was too big to fit or get anywhere.
